Stand Up Paddleboard
SUP Austin! Rowing Dock is one of the top spots for paddle boarding in Austin. We’ve got a huge selection of stand up paddle boards that are suitable for people of all ages and skill levels.
Paddle Board Rental FAQ
Paddle boarding is much easier than it looks, and if you want you can sit down or kneel rather than standing up on the board. The great thing about paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake is the water is extremely calm. There are next to no motorized boats on the lake, which makes it easier to glide through the water on a paddleboard.
Yep! We have paddle boards that are suitable for kids as young as eight years old. However, if a child is under 16 they have to be accompanied by a parent when they’re out on Town Lake Austin.
Due to the design of the board we don’t recommend that you take much with you while paddle boarding Lady Bird Lake. If you do want to bring a camera or phone we highly recommend grabbing a dry case at the dock. It’s also a good idea to wear a hydration pack and a hat.
The city ordinances state that anyone under 13 years old must wear a lifejacket out on Lady Bird Lake. We encourage all paddlers that are not strong swimmers to wear their life jackets to be safe. All others must have a lifejacket with them in boats but aren’t required to wear the lifejacket. You can bring your own lifejacket with you or use one of ours at no extra charge.
At Rowing Dock we provide lifejackets and paddles, but there are a few things we highly recommend taking on your paddle boarding trip on Lady Bird Lake. While we sell sunscreen, water, and hats at the dock, you are welcome to bring your own as they are the top three additional items you’ll want on the water. Paddle boarding down Lady Bird Lake provides a lot of opportunities for amazing pictures of the Austin skyline, Barton Springs, Congress Bridge and much more. If you need, we have dry bags at the dock to keep your cameras and smartphones protected.
Instead of an All-Day rate, we offer a competitive MAX Rental Pricing. Structure. This offers you the flexibility to decide how long you want to paddle once you are on the water vs. having to decide up front.
Regular rental rates are by the hour. We collect payment for the first hour of rentals up front. If you stay out on the water longer than an hour, additional charges will accrue and are prorated by the half hour up to MAX Price per boat. For clarification, after you reach the MAX Price additional charges do NOT accrue. You will pay your remaining balance when you check your boats back in at the returns window.
For regular rental items, you are welcome to stay out on the water as long you prefer; however, you must return your boats BEFORE we close. Make sure to check our current hours of operation as they change throughout the year.
Regular Rentals are our top of the line Kayaks, Canoes, and Stand Up Paddleboards that are available to rent by the hour on a first come first served basis.
Specialty Rentals are reservation based premium rentals. These include but are not limited to our Pedal Kayaks that offer a hands-free kayaking experience and our Fishing Kayaks that are set up to accommodate you and your gear for a day of fishing on Lady Bird Lake.
