3 Easy Steps to Getting an Austin Kayak Rental From Rowing Dock
Rowing Dock makes getting out on Lady Bird Lake simple and fun. We’re open 7 days a week, making it easy for everyone to enjoy kayaking in Austin on their own schedule. All you have to do is:
- Show up at our dock in Zilker Park. In general, there is no need to call ahead of time as we rent on a first come first serve basis. We do, however, require reservations for our fishing kayaks and large group rentals.
- Bring a valid photo ID, credit card, and fill out a rental waiver at the dock.
- Pick your kayak, put on a lifejacket and hit the water!

Kayaking in Austin is safe for people of all skill levels, including beginners. We use high quality equipment that’s well maintained, and our rowing experts can help you select the kayak that’s best suited for your adventure on Lady Bird Lake.
Anyone under 13 years old will be required to wear a lifejacket, and it’s highly recommended for everyone else. But don’t worry, we have lifejackets in all sizes that are free to use with your rental.

Nope. We operate on a first come, first served basis. On the weekends during the middle of the day there may be a short wait, but you can always enjoy beautiful Zilker Park while we get your kayak ready.
At Rowing Dock we provide lifejackets and paddles, but there are a few things we highly recommend taking on your kayaking trip on Lady Bird Lake. While we sell sunscreen, water, and hats at the dock, you are welcome to bring your own as they are the top three additional items you’ll want on the water. Kayaking down Lady Bird Lake provides a lot of opportunities for amazing pictures of the Austin skyline, Barton Springs, Congress Bridge and much more. If you need, we have dry bags at the dock to keep your cameras and smartphones protected.
