JAWS on the Water: A Can’t Miss Floating Movie Night in Austin

For those looking for a one-of-a-kind Austin Summer event that’s equal parts fun and thrilling, Rowing Dock has you covered. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of JAWS, which first aired in 1975, Rowing Dock is launching JAWS on the Water — an immersive floating movie night on Friday, June 20th, 2025. Whether you’re a movie buff, thrill-seeker, or just looking for a unique to enjoy Austin’s outdoor scene, this is the can’t-miss event of the season.

The best part? You’ll be watching from a kayak, stand up paddleboard or canoe. Tickets for the show will be offered on a first come, first serve basis at the door. Pricing ranges from $40 – $60 based on the boat you select. Check in will begin at 7:30pm, and showtime is at 8pm. In addition to watching on the big screen, Rowing Dock will be providing complimentary Shark Attack Mocktails and glow sticks to elevate your experience. Plus, those that attend will witness a fin-tastic surprise.

If you’re not able to attend the Rowing Dock floating movie night, Alamo Drafthouse will also be airing the film on the big screen on June 21st, July 12 and July 16, 2025 at Volente Beach Resort in Leander, TX. Participants will watch from floating inner tubes instead of boats.

For those reading along for some JAWS trivia, it turns out that if it wasn’t for one Texan, JAWS would have never aired on the big screen. Corpus Christi Native Sid Sheinberg, then President of MCA/Universal, personally tapped a young, somewhat unknown Steven Spielberg to direct the film. My San Antonio has the inside scoop.
