There’s Love in the Water

Photos by wedding photographer Jessica Summerford!

Despite all the challenges of the pandemic, one silver lining came from our experience – we turned into a wedding venue for couples whose weddings were postponed or cancelled! That’s right – we have now married two couples at Rowing Dock! One couple had their first date at Rowing Dock, and wanted to commemorate the occasion. Another couple were rowers in school and have spent so much time kayaking down the river.

We have felt so incredibly lucky to be a part of a few couples’ amazing love stories.

Not to mention, we have had THREE couples meet while working at the dock and get married.

Turns out, you can’t cancel LOVE.

CBS Austin covered this story in a Valentine’s Day feature. Check out the video and a quick preview below.

One Austin business is hoping to spread the love this V-Day and give back to its customers, who they say have carried them through the pandemic. Rowing Dock, on Austin’s Town Lake, is hosting weddings on the water.

Not only have they had three couples get married who met as employees at Rowing Dock, but they say COVID-19 has given them an opportunity they never imagined: to become an unlikely, water-front venue for couples whose weddings have been postponed/canceled. After hosting their first wedding of a paddle-loving couple, they are now hosting their second wedding one on Feb 21, 2021.

Texas Monthly Recommends: Our Full Moon Paddle

Ben Rowen, associate editor for Texas Monthly, highlighted Rowing Dock’s full moon paddle as part of his series – Texas Monthly Recommends

An excerpt from his piece below:

Nighttime kayaking provides the standard joys of kayaking—feeling the water splash against your hands, gliding without disturbing the world beneath you—sans the pains of the daytime: sunburn, daily commitments, others paddleboarding nearby while playing pop songs at the noise level of a nightclub, etc. In lieu of a starry sky, the city’s skyline provides the light to guide you. Being on the lake at night is the closest thing to silence you can find in a city. Make sure to bring your own lights and go with others if possible, for safety. In the summer, Rowing Dock offers guided full-moon paddles.

Kayaking exercises both the body and the atrophying mind. It’s not quite a jaunt to Walden Pond, but it sure beats the Jersey Shore.

For those that haven’t experienced kayaking or paddle boarding at night, add our full moon paddles to your bucket list. Seeing the Austin skyline lit up from the water is truly a memory you won’t forget.
