LIFE JACKETS

Each person must have a life jacket on board. Children under the age of 13 years must wear a life jacket at all times. We provide life jackets.

TRAFFIC PATTERNS (STAY TO THE RIGHT)

  • Never paddle in the middle of the lake.
  • Stay to the right side of lake, just like automobile traffic.
  • Wait for faster moving traffic to pass before crossing the lake.

AVOID ROWING SHELLS

Kayaks, Canoes and SUPs must yield to rowers. Always be aware of rowing shells and coaching launches. MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. Communicate to let other boats know your location (YELL or whistle). 

BEING PASSED

Move toward the shore when being passed. Stay clear.

CAPSIZED OR SWAMPED BOATS

Do not abandon the boat. Lift yourself back into the boat. If unsuccessful, stay with boat until assistance arrives, or kick the boat to shore.

SAFETY REPORT

Always report if you become aware of an accident or distressed boat or boater. 

NO SWIMMING IN LADY BIRD LAKE

City of Austin ordinance prohibits swimming in Lady Bird Lake.

Call 911 in case of emergency or if you become aware of an accident or distressed boater.
